LAST week’s end of season awards night held in the Port Glasgow Town Hall was an excellent evening culminating with Liam Grimshaw winning a clean sweep of the player of the year awards.
It is very difficult to disagree with Liam being a standout performer although I personally voted for Jack Baird and felt he deserved to get at least one of the awards.
Thankfully a group of 18 of us (GMGT) selected Jack as our player of the year and myself and Iain McColl informed him of this at the awards evening.
We will present him with the trophy at the first game of the new season but meantime I would like to congratulate everyone of the players who contributed this season for all their efforts even though we ultimately fell short in the end.
The GMGT have for past few years sponsored Reece Lyon and from a local perspective it was disappointing to see both Reece and Lewis Strapp being released by the club as it is always nice to have as many local boys as possible in the Morton squad.
I personally would have offered both another contract but at the end of the day Dougie Imrie is paid to make such decisions and we have to accept his decision and hope that neither player comes back to haunt us in the future.
