A SOCIAL housing development built on polluted land in Greenock has been shortlisted for two awards.
Bunston Grove - on the site of the former Ravenscraig Hospital - has been nominated twice as a finalist in the Scottish Home Awards.
An official ground survey prior to the project commencing confirmed the presence of 'multiple exceedances' of potentially harmful chemicals in the ground.
Developer Link Group Ltd used heavy duty and hardwearing capping lawyers as barriers against the pollutants.
The Telegraph told recently how Bunston Grove had been nominated in the Housing Regeneration Project of the Year category.
It is also in the running to be named Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year.
The estate, built McTaggart Construction, boasts 200 homes, including 20 wheelchair accessible properties.
It caters for a range of age groups and community housing needs.
The project provides starter and family homes through to units which can support older residents and those with additional needs, and each property has a private garden area.
McTaggart Construction MD Janice Russell said: “We are thrilled to be nominated and it is testament to our commitment to building quality affordable homes and belief they change lives and communities.
“Our continued success relies not only on our workforce’s passion and professionalism but our engaged and listening approach to partnerships with clients and communities. Together we aim to make a positive difference.”
Construction bosses say that the project also provided more than 120 hours of training and development of skills for school and college students.
