I OCCASIONALLY come across old photographs that puzzle me.
My main image today is one I discovered in the Telegraph’s archives some time ago.
Written on the back was Kilblain Street 1961, but I was initially uncertain that was the case.
However, closer examination of the photograph identified a sign on the gable end of the roofless building which showed the car was going down Nicolson Street, which exists today but no longer has a connection with Kilblain Street.
In the background of the image can be seen a roundabout which was at the foot of Inverkip Street.
My other picture likely goes back to the end of the 1960s.
It shows the roundabout being removed and demolition of properties on the river side of High Street for the redevelopment of Greenock town centre.
High Street was once a bustling part of town with many shops.
