Although unpredictable weather threatened to dampen this year's Gourock Highland Games, early clouds moved away leaving fine weather for those who attended. The day was a great success topped off with a rousing parade of pipes and drums. Here is a small selection Gourock Highland Games shots from the Telegraph archive.
Pic1: Baton twirling majorettes put on a fine performance for a packed Gourock Park after the opening of Gourock Highland Games in 1999.
Pic2: TV Gladiator Siren joined young runners who took part in one of the sprinting competitions held as part of the athletics programme in 1998. Pupils representing primary schools across Inverclyde happily posed up for this shot after the races were lost and won.
Pic3: Young Highland dancers representing Greenock's May Hughes School of Dancing made time for the Tele camera as the much-anticipated caber tossing competition got underway in the background.
Pic4: The first Gourock Highland Games of the new millennium drew a large crowd of spectators, thanks to fine weather and a host of top attractions.
Pic5: Budding athletes representing Ardgowan Primary School celebrated their racing win at the Gourock Highland Games in 1997.
While the Games have since moved to Battery Park, it is great to see that the event remains a hugely popular one on the local calendar.
