INVERCLYDE MP Ronnie Cowan has criticised the UK Government after warnings that energy bills will not return to normal levels until around 2030.
Following the announcement from Ofgem of the new energy price cap, Mr Cowan MP said local families were 'paying the price for Westminster failure'.
The regulator has reduced the cap to £2,074 a year for the typical household from July, but energy prices will still be around double what they were in 2021.
Mr Cowan said: “Westminster should be using the vast profits of the energy companies to give families in Inverclyde an energy bill rebate.
“The UK Government has withdrawn the £400 energy bill rebate for households and I would encourage prepayment customers in Inverclyde to ensure they’ve claimed all their vouchers. My constituency office continues to help individuals and households claim their energy vouchers.”
