MORTON director Graham Barr says the club is determined to attract the next generation of fans through the Cappielow turnstiles and boost crowds.
The boardroom marketing and communications man is optimistic after the season ticket sale for the new 2023-24 campaign season started strongly, with around a third of last season’s final total already sold.
Ton have frozen prices with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in mind, and Barr says the decision was an 'easy' one to make.
He told the Tele: "Given the current circumstances, we felt freezing prices was important.
"It has been a positive start to sales this year, less than a week after putting them on sale we are already approaching 300 sold which is a great start.
"“With the introduction of Fanbase as our new ticketing partner, the process has hopefully been greatly simplified for supporters this year.
"The supporters gave us fantastic backing over the course of last season and that played a huge part in the success on the pitch.
“We’re looking to build on that next season so that backing will be just as important.
“As a community club, we want to do our best to try and encourage a new generation of supporters to come to Cappielow and become Morton fans for life.
"Children under-12 will also still have the opportunity to get a free season ticket with a paying adult.
“We would love to see growth in the 21 and under categories, as ultimately these are the fans of the future."
Barr says that the club's owners Morton Club Together also remain on a strong footing despite the tough spending squeeze which has affected the whole country.
He told the Tele: “It has been positive to see MCT membership numbers continue to grow steadily over the last year.
"Those contributions really are vital to the club.”
While refusing to set a target for season tickets this term, Barr hopes that the people of Inverclyde turn out and back their team after last term's encouraging progress on the park.
Barr said: "We’re looking to continue progressing, so it would be great to see season ticket numbers rise compared to last year which was also a very strong year for season ticket sales.
“Last year was a good year for the club, and it was great to see the general positivity amongst the support throughout the season. It’s easy to forget that it was our first full season under MCT ownership.
“Although it was disappointing to miss out on the playoffs coming so close, it was a great season on the pitch and one we will look to build from moving forward."
