SNP councillors have welcomed work to create a new cycle path and walkwy in Port Glasgow.
Inverclyde Council are using Scottish Government funding to widen 700m of pavement along Ardgowan Street, to provide a two metre footpath and three metre cyclepath.
Cllr Chris Curley, SNP council group environment and regeneration spokesperson, says it will form part of a strategic link along the A8 corridor between Port Glasgow and Greenock town centres.
He said: "Whilst the adjacent carriageway has been narrowed, I understand that the road capacity and parking opportunities will be largely unaffected. Hopefully these works will act as an exemplar project in Inverclyde for interventions to encourage active travel."
Colleague Kirsty Law, ward 2 councillor, added: "The active travel route in Port Glasgow will allow for safer cycling routes, greater connectivity across Inverclyde and give our residents a viable green alternative for travelling in our area."
