A MAN charged with holding a kitchen knife to a woman's throat and stealing medication during an alleged armed robbery at her home has been released on bail.

David Cleisham, 35, is accused of forcing entry to a flat in the town centre whilst armed with a blade.

Cleisham assaulted the woman and presented the knife at her throat before making off with a quantity of medical supplies, prosecutors claim.

Cleisham is said to have later been found in possession of a black-handled kitchen knife in a public place without reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

A further charge alleges that he resisted, obstructed or hindered two male police officers and struggled violently with them.

Cleisham, of Brachelston Street, is said to have committed the alleged offences on May 3.

He made no plea through solicitor Amy Spencer during the private hearing on petition at the sheriff court on Friday.

Sheriff James Varney continued matters for further examination and allowed Cleisham on bail.

A date for the next calling of the case is to be confirmed.
