A CONVICTED Greenock killer serving nine years for culpable homicide has had more time added to his jail sentence - after being found with an illicit sim card in prison.

Jordan Cunningham was jailed in December after pleading guilty to causing the death of 22-year-old Adam Anderson in Greenock.

Cunningham, 29, was originally charged with murdering the local young man after he mowed him down in a car park off the town's Ann Street in January last year.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that there had been an ongoing feud between the two men and their associates.

Cunningham later torched his Audi A4 car in a bid to defeat justice.

Appearing in handcuffs at the sheriff court, Cunningham, now an inmate at HMP Shotts, pleaded guilty through solicitor Amy Spencer to possession of a personal communication device while remanded at HMP Greenock last year.

The court heard that prison officers carried out a search of Cunningham's cell on the afternoon of March 26, 2022 and examined his prison-issued mobile phone, which contained an illicit Vodafone sim card.

Miss Spencer told the court: "His date of liberation is currently 2031.

"He has served a custodial sentence before and has not been convicted of this offence before.

"He was finding it difficult being away from friends and family and used the sim card to keep in touch with them."

After admitting to the offence in jail, Cunningham was given two days of separation in his cell and two weeks without privileges, the court heard.

Miss Spencer added: "He has already been punished in relation to this."

The lawyer noted Cunningham's 'lack of analogous offences' and the fact that he pleaded guilty at the first instance and is already serving a 'significant custodial sentence'.

Sheriff James Varney told him: "By using a sim card in this way you are getting a benefit that other people are not getting."

Cunningham was sentenced to four months in prison to run consecutively to his current jail term.

The Telegraph reported in December that the prisoner was attacked in jail just days after being placed behind bars.

He appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on a road traffic offence, with the top of his head completely wrapped in bandages.

A prison source told the Tele that his ear was 'hanging off' after the 'slashing'.
