A GREENOCK woman who used the word 'Fenian' whilst shouting foul-mouthed and offensive abuse at police was not prosecuted for a sectarian aggravation at the sheriff court.

Hazel Konstantinovs, who also referred to officers as 'black', had reference to an alleged racial and sectarian offence deleted from the charge against her.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty through lawyer Edel McGinty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Konstantinovs shouted, swore and uttered offensive remarks towards officers at her Sir Michael Street home.

The court heard that police had gone to the address on the morning of August 15 last year to speak with her regarding an unrelated matter.

Konstantinovs became hostile towards officers, hurling expletives and using derogatory terms.

The court was told that 'black has a long history of abuse towards police' and has 'no racial connotations'.

Solicitor Miss McGinty said that her client had been in an abusive relationship with her ex-partner.

When officers arrived at the property 'she felt aggrieved she was the one being spoken to', the lawyer said.

Miss McGinty added: "She has an historical record.

"The relationship is now at an end.

"Whilst one cannot condone the language used it is perhaps understandable with someone at their wit's end.

"The matter was an isolated incident against that backdrop."

Sheriff Mark Moir told Konstantinovs: "I recognise that you have a very limited resource and I understand fully that matters are extremely difficult for everybody in society.

"However, I also recognise that police officers have a right to go about their duty without being abused by you."

Konstantinovs was fined £110.
