THE Greenock Telegraph and its sister paper have been praised at the Scottish Parliament as being ‘papers at the heart of their communities’.
West Scotland MSP Paul O’Kane has recognised both the Tele and Largs & Millport News’ nominations at the recent Scottish Press Awards in a Holyrood motion.
He highlighted how the two titles had played their part in raising awareness of important campaigns for people in their respective areas.
Mr O’Kane said: “I attended the 2023 Press Awards and was delighted to see the Greenock Telegraph and Largs & Millport Weekly News recognised for their campaign work.
“These are two well respected papers, two local papers at the heart of their communities, covering the issues that matter to local people. They are well connected to the issues and concerns of their local areas and don’t hesitate to play their part to help.
“The importance of local journalism can’t be emphasised enough, local papers ensure that local voices are heard and I commend both the Greenock Telegraph and Largs & Millport Weekly news for demonstrating that."
