INVERCLYDE has recorded the lowest rise in household numbers in Scotland over the last 20 years.
Every council area in the country saw the number of households increase over the last two decades, but the district was at the bottom of the table.
While the highest percentage increases were in Orkney Islands (28 per cent), East Lothian (27 per cent) and Midlothian (26 per cent), Inverclyde's figure was four per cent.
The next lowest percentage increases were in Dundee and West Dunbartonshire, both at seven per cent.
In 2022, there were an estimated 2.55 million households in Scotland, which is 15 per cent more than 20 years ago.
The figures were published by National Records of Scotland.
