WITH reference to the article published by the Tele on June 22 entitled ‘Gourock councillor launches cost of living support pack’.

Being someone who is currently struggling with the cost of living crisis at the moment, and about to potentially lose my home when interest rates rise and mortgage payments balloon upwards, I was very interested to read said ‘pack’.

That was until I opened it to find nothing but a political trojan horse disguised as ‘help for Inverclyde residents’.

Firstly as I opened the first page and was greeted by Mr McCluskey’s photograph taking up almost half of the page and then read through, it very quickly transpired to be all about Labour, both in Inverclyde and the UK, mentioning the Labour party’s ‘alternative plan’ for government (is this a support pack, or a campaign leaflet?).

On the next page, a full page outline of what ‘Inverclyde Council’ have done to help people in recent years, yet it is all Labour red and white font, not the usual Inverclyde council green font, why?

The ‘support pack’ itself comprised of a flimsy outline of services widely known to the public already, sandwiched between the previous shameless tone deaf self absorption, and finally yet another page of pro Labour narrative, telling us of Keir Starmer’s grand plan for the UK (not Inverclyde), and how he will create a ‘Great British energy’ company, by essentially using Scotland’s rich renewable energy resources to power the whole of the UK, repeating the theft of our oil and gas by Westminster for the previous 4 or 5 decades!

Finally we have another ‘Labour plan’ for mortgages (again, where is the direct immediate support for people in Inverclyde here?).

It is a pamphlet of empty promises and self aggrandising narrative from Labour, thinly and patronisingly disguised as some kind of help for people who actually need it.

Meanwhile, our MSP Stuart McMillan and our MP Ronnie Cowan, have, for months, been holding cost of living surgeries, ran by them personally, and providing direct and tangible financial support and advice, including practical help and support.

I felt so patronised reading this, and as usual, Labour in Inverclyde, most significantly Mr McCluskey, are all about themselves and spinning a good yarn, with absolutely zero substance.
