TWO Albanian men charged with serious drugs offences are back on the streets after being allowed bail at Greenock Sheriff Court this afternoon.

Besjan Sulaj, 32, and Agron Zika, 36, are both accused of being concerned in the supply of cannabis to another or others.

Their court appearance came after police told how officers had stopped a car in Port Glasgow as part of an intelligence-led operation last night.

Police Scotland said that £150,000 worth of cannabis was seized from a Volkswagen Passat on Markinch Road at around 6.40pm.

Sulaj and Zika - who is also charged with driving a car without a licence or insurance - appeared in court for a petition hearing in private.

Both men made no plea through lawyer Aidan Gallagher.

The case has been continued for further examination with Sulaj, of no fixed abode, and Zika, of Leamington Spa, being bailed.

A date for their next court appearance is to be confirmed.

Detective Superintendent Craig Willison, who led the Port Glasgow operation, said: “This was a significant drugs recovery that has taken £150,000 worth of drugs out of our communities.

“Drugs cause misery in our communities and we are committed to disrupting their supply.

“This operation underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“Anyone with information or concerns about drugs should contact us on 101, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
