A GREENOCK councillor is urging residents to join her campaign to tidy up the town centre.
Francesca Brennan and fellow ward councillor Jim Clocherty teamed up with River Clyde Homes office based staff to spend a day pulling up weeds at back courts in the area and cleaning up.
She is now keen to start up a gardening project and is hoping people living in flats in the centre of Greenock will get involved.
Councillor Brennan said: "When I talk to people living in the town centre, they are rightly concerned and frustrated about the challenges they face with the condition of some of the housing.
"We all need to listen and act on those issues where we can.
"No matter what the other challenges are, time and again, the issue of the weeds out the back courts comes up.
"And sorting that problem out once and for all is a step towards showing residents that people are listening.
" It can be challenging to make change because there is such a mixed picture of responsibility but we know how important it is to tenants and residents to see a difference in their area."
A team of RCH staff volunteered to get involved and spent a day improving the grounds.
Cllr Brennan said: ""We were delighted when the RCH team agreed to prioritise tidying up and weeding parts of the town centre, as well as organising a wide range of really important and varied projects around Inverclyde as part of their Working in Neighbourhood Day."
"We wanted to join the staff in Greenock town centre to be part of a real team effort. It was great to get such a warm welcome from the RCH workers, and residents came out to join in and share their support for the work we were doing."
Now Cllr Brennan hopes to get up a community action group set up to carry on the good work.
Any ward four residents interested in being involved in a weeding and gardening project, are urged to get in touch by emaioling francesca.brennan@inverclyde.gov.uk or calling 07385957382.
