A BRAVE Gourock dad took a leap of faith to raise cash for a charity which has helped his wife deal with incurable cancer.
Kevin McNeill took part in a 10,000-foot fundraising skydive at Strathallan airfield alongside his good friend Fraser Kennedy and brother-in-law Alex Will in aid of Ardgowan Hospice.
Kevin’s wife Jennifer has received regular treatment from the hospice since she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in July 2021.
The local dad, his friends and his family have raised more than £30,000 for the hospice last year, with their latest effort adding to the impressive fundraising total.
Kevin told the Tele he was pleased to be supporting the charity once again.
He said: “Everyone here has a connection, my wife resides in the hospice at the moment, and she’s used it quite a bit over the last two years.
“I’ve seen the good work that they do, not just for Jennifer as a patient but from a family point of view as well.
“They’re really good and all the services they provide are really helpful.
“Everybody in Greenock knows somebody who has used the hospice in some capacity so it’s a good cause to support.”
Kevin’s friend Claire Kane was originally supposed to join the trio for their dive but had to pull out due to an administrative mix up.
She said fundraisers like the one her friends were taking part in were a vital part of keeping the hospice’s good work going.
She added: “It’s not until you use the service you realise how much they rely on funding to keep going.
“So much of their budget comes from public money and it’s really important to keep that coming in.
“When you’re receiving the service you’ve got no idea, the standard of care is through the roof so it’s vital we keep supporting it.”
Ardgowan Hospice’s fundraising manager Joanna Hunter praised the brave group’s fundraising efforts and thanked them for all of their work.
She added: “Kevin and his family and friends last year raised over £30,000 for the hospice and this is yet another thing they’ve done for us.
“We as a hospice want to thank Kevin and everyone who’s been involved in that fundraising.
“It’s phenomenal the amount that everyone’s raised and the support that’s been given to us.
“We want to massively thank them for that.”
