A TALENTED creative team is heading for London's west end with their production of Irvine Welsh's book Porno.

Writer David Carswell, who faithfully adapted the stage show from the novel, leads a local cast, production and backstage team.

This follows on from the success of their sold-out Edinburgh Fringe show last year which received rave reviews.

Greenock Telegraph:

David, who has 35 years experience in the drama industry, told the Telegraph: "It is a sequel to Trainspotting and looks at where the four main characters are 15 years on.

"I have kept the stage adaptation as close to the book as possible.

"The fringe version was 50 minutes, this is a longer version for the tour."

He said the team were delighted with the feedback from the Fringe show.

David, who has also earned national acclaim for The Tommy Burns Story, said: "It was brilliant. I was delighted that we received such fantastic reviews and it was a sell-out."

Local actors Kevin Murphy, who plays Spud, and Chris Gavin, Begbie, were heaped with praise for their performances.

Reviewer Natalie O'Donoghue, of Broadway World, said: "It's difficult to imagine anyone but Robert Carlyle taking on the role of psychopath Begbie but Chris Gavin is a worthy successor."

Greenock Telegraph:

This production has Outlander actors Scott Kyle and James McAnerney make up the Trainspotting gang, as Renton and Sickboy.

Local actor Jim Brown, who stars in the production in various roles, said: "It was great being given the chance to do the play at the fringe and be part of that whole atmosphere and now to have the opportunity on the back of that and getting a tour is just phenomenal."

Greenock Telegraph:

Jonty Cameron is directing and Andy Brodie is their backstage supremo and both have decades of experience in local theatre.

There is a warm-up show at the Beacon on September 13, followed by the Kings' Glasgow, Liverpool, Crewe, Manchester and London's west end.

The show is expected to play to audiences of more than a thousand people at each venue and tickets are already selling fast.

David said: "We've already sold around 3,300 tickets, we should be sold out by next week."
