MSP Jamie Greene has called for a safety clampdown on cyclists using the path between Gourock pier and the town's railway station.
He has writen to CMAL, the owner of Gourock ferry pier, to highlight ‘hazards’ being posed to pedestrians on the walkway.
The issue was raised by a ferry passenger who said she'd suffered a number of ‘near misses’ with people on bikes.
In a letter to Kevin Hobbs, CMAL chief executive, Mr Greene and fellow MSP Donald Cameron say that while there is a sign notifying cyclists to dismount at the beginning of the walkway, many of them simply ignore it.
Mr Greene said: “It's important that our transport routes in Inverclyde are accessible for all, including visitors from other regions who rely on public transport to get here.
“That’s why Donald and I have sent this joint letter to CMAL, who I’m sure will do the right thing and ensure they prioritise the accessibility of their walkways for pedestrians."
