A PROFESSIONAL Scottish opera company is set to perform at the Beacon Arts Centre this month – marking ten years since its first appearance at the Greenock venue.

Opera Bohemia gave the first operatic performance, Madama Butterfly, at the newly-opened theatre in 2013.

A special performance of the same show – said to be one of the company’s ‘most successful productions’ – will be held on August 18.

The Greenock show is part of a tour which will take the company’s total performances of Madama Butterfly to 47.

The production is being directed by John Leo Wilkie, who first worked with Opera Bohemia in 2010.

Since then, John has gone on to enjoy an international career, directing for New Zealand Festival Opera, the Danish National Opera and Opera Holland Park.

Scottish soprano Catriona Clark – who has shared the stage with the likes of Alfie Boe, Bryn Terfel and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa – will reprise the title role.

Catriona will be joined by Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduates Cameron Mitchell and Seumas Begg.

A spokesperson for Opera Bohemia said: “This tale of love, sacrifice and heartbreak promises to be a memorable night for opera lovers and newcomers alike.

“Puccini’s score is packed full of beautiful music and many people will recognise the famous aria ‘One fine day’.”
