MINDLESS yobs have gone on a rampage at a local golf club causing a significant amount of damage to greens and fairways.
It's believed that the vandals used some sort of vehicle to create deep gouges in the surface of five greens on the course at Greenock Golf Club.
Pictures taken by the club show areas of turf which have been worn away, exposing the ground below.
Tyre tracks are clearly visible and it is believed the culprits used an electric bike to inflict the damage.
Officials at the club have urged locals to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
A spokesperson for the club said: "If you see anyone around the club or on the course on one of these bikes, please contact us and the police so that we can try and identify who is causing this.
"This isn't the first time this has happened recently, which means whoever is causing this damage knows what they are doing."
The costly course damage will now have to be repaired by greenkeepers.
The vandalism to the greens at Greenock follows on from a spate of attacks carried out at clubs across Inverclyde in recent years.
Back in 2020, morons used a Land Rover Discovery to perform 'donut' manoeuvres all over the playing areas at Port Glasgow Club.
Thoughtless hooligans drove a vehicle all over the greens and fairways at Whinhill twice in 2021 and once again last year.
And just last month, parts of Kilmacolm Golf Club were ripped up two nights in a row, with large tufts of turf torn out of the ground.
The team at Greenock have apologised to members and everyone using the club but assured them that repairs will be carried out timeously to get the greens back to their best.
A spokesperson added: "We can only apologise to members and visitors who will have to putt over the damage in the coming weeks.
"Our greens staff will work hard to repair it as soon as they can and we hope that there will be no further vandalism to our greens in the future."
