A HOST of hidden talent is set to go 'public' on stage at a special entertainment event organised by Inverclyde Alcohol and Drug Partnership.

Recovery's Got Talent has been holding auditions for local musicians, singers and anyone who has turned their lives around to take part in the show.

Several people have signed up to get a chance to perform at the event ahead of a National Recovery Walk at Battery Park next month.

Isobel Dempster, recovery development co-ordinator at Your Voice, said: "These are people who have been stuck in a lifestyle prior to recovery.

"We have so many agencies, different groups and so many talented people.

"It's a good way to give people a platform, they my have many talents but they need a bit of a confidence boost, of self-worth.

"Other people may notice their talents before they realise it themselves, it's the part of their journey."

Isobel wanted to give a special mention to Mark Few and Tony Rubbio who had everyone dancing along to their own composition Chicken Curry and Rice.

She said: "It was so good. It set everyone dancing, it was excellent."

It is hoped that the Recovery's Got Talent event will be held in the Beacon but this is still to be confirmed.

Isobel said the National Recovery Walk which takes place on September 23 is a huge event for Greenock with people coming from all over the country.

She said: "It was held in Paisley last year and thousands of people came. It is huge for Inverclyde, the amount of people walking in recovery and in Inverclyde who are in recovery, is shows that it really can happen.

"It is a celebration of recovery. There will also be a roses ceremony to remember all those lives lost through alcohol and drugs."

Recovery's Got Talent is the first in a series of events hosted by Inverclyde Alcohol and Drug Partners, the other events include Inverclyde Overdose Awareness (Recovery Open Doors), a candlelit vigil and Tea in the Park, a recovery community event.

A football tournament, stigma and kindness workshop and a play performed by Jericho House, are also planned.
