A MURDER accused Greenock woman has been charged with killing a baby.
Nicole Dorothy Blain is said to have repeatedly inflicted blunt force trauma on a days-old infant.
Prosecutors say that 27-year-old Blain struck the baby's head and body, causing fatal injuries.
The charge against her claims that she committed the alleged murder 'by means unknown to the prosecutor'.
Blain is accused of killing the infant at an address in Greenock on July 14.
It is alleged that she assaulted the baby and 'did murder' the infant.
Blain appeared from custody on petition for a private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon and made no plea through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher.
Sheriff James Varney continued the case for further examination and granted bail to Blain.
A date for the next calling of matters is to be confirmed.
