A GREENOCK Prison inmate has been charged with trying to send an abusive note to his ex from the jail threatening her with violence.

Patrick Donnachie, who was at HMP Gateside between March and May, is said to have repeatedly sent the woman letters and contacted her by phone whilst subject to a non-harassment order.

It is claimed the 42-year-old's alleged offence was aggravated by involving abuse of his partner or former partner.

A second charge alleges that on March 28 Donnachie behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by writing and attempting to deliver a note containing threats of violence.

Lawyer Derek Buchanan tendered a not guilty plea on his client's behalf and a trial has been scheduled for January 3 next year.
