A CELEBRITY visitor turned heads in Greenock when she arrived on our shores - and the Tele got a chance to go on board for a tour.

Huge cruise ship Celebrity Apex returned to Inverclyde for the second time this year when she berthed at Ocean Terminal on Thursday.

The vessel stopped off as part of a 12-day cruise from Amsterdam to Rotterdam and arrived via Reykjavik in Iceland.

Greenock Telegraph:

The team at Celebrity Cruises told the Tele that passengers and crew always enjoy a stop off in Greenock.

A Celebrity Cruises spokesperson added: "We're thrilled to be back in Greenock again as it's always a popular stop for our passengers.

"We always receive a really warm welcome when we arrive in Inverclyde."

While she was alongside Ocean Terminal on Thursday, the Telegraph was treated to an exclusive tour of the vessel.

Apex is part of the Celebrity Cruises Edge series of ships and started sailing in 2021.

She was the first ship to be given a four-star rating by Forbes Travel Guide and is equipped with incredible, state-of-the-art features.

With almost 1,200 places to stay on board, Apex has a full double occupancy of 2,910 passengers across 16 guest decks.

Greenock Telegraph:

There are also 1,319 crew members on board the ship which is 1,004ft in length.

At the centre of the vessel is the Grand Plaza, a spectacular social area spanning three floors.

Greenock Telegraph:

A lavish bar, illuminated by an incredible chandelier, takes up the ground floor and transforms into a lively venue every night.

Bars, restaurants and cafes stretch along either side.

The huge ship also boasts a remarkable number of separate restaurants including Cyprus, Cosmopolitan, Blu, Eden, and Raw on 5.

Passengers can enjoy a wide variety of different cuisines, and each restaurant has a distinct theme.

Greenock Telegraph:

The vessel boasts Celebrity's most technologically advanced theatre yet, complete with a 110ft curved 4K LED screen.

There's also an art gallery where works can be perused and purchased.

Passengers can also enjoy entertainment including game shows and quizzes in The Club, and have a look at jewellery in shops including Bulgari and Cartier.

Teenagers can meanwhile take part in a whole range of activities in The Basement area.

But the most unique feature of the shop is the 'Magic Carpet', a floating platform which sits out from the edge of the ship.

Greenock Telegraph:

This amazing area is a cafe bar and can move from floor to floor.

Celebrity Apex is due to return to Greenock on September 9 and will then be back on September 9, 2024.

Greenock Telegraph:

The team at Celebrity said they've been getting fantastic feedback from customers about the ship - and about Inverclyde.

They added:"Our Apex vessel started sailing in 2021 so she is still a really new liner.

"We’ve had fantastic feedback from our passengers who have been wowed by her amazing features.

"We’re looking forward to the rest of the sail and can’t wait to see the people of Inverclyde again in September."
