A DRIVE-through cafe which is set to open near a busy Greenock road next year is continuing to take shape.
Greggs bosses have today confirmed that their £1.5m hot food and drink outlet which is being built at the corner of Cartsburn Street and Rue End Street will open next year.
Construction work has been taking place at the fenced-off site since the start of the summer.
Panels matching the bakery chain's well-known blue branding have now been installed on the outside of the building, with work to construct the cafe's adjoining car park set to start.
Developers Dalglen Ltd, an investment vehicle owned by billionaire brothers Sandy and James Easdale, had plans for a drive-through coffee shop on the site approved in October 2021.
The development area was purchased from Scottish Enterprise in 2018.
Councillors recently granted permission for work to stop up the nearby Arthur Street to support the development.
While the building's exterior is now in place, a launch date for the new chain is yet to be confirmed.
A Greggs spokesperson said “Greggs is due to open a new drive-thru shop at Rue End Street, Greenock, next year. We will be able to share further details closer to the opening.”
