HERITAGE groups in Inverclyde are being urged to apply for grants from a multi-million pound funding pot.

MP Ronnie Cowan and MSP Stuart McMillan are teaming up in a bid to help ramp up Inverclyde’s share of the National Lottery Community Fund.

It was revealed last month that £5.8million had been split between 127 organisations in the area over the past five years.

Greenock Telegraph:

Mr Cowan said: “When I was first elected it was clear to me that not enough National Lottery cash was coming back to Inverclyde, and said I wanted that to be addressed.

"Since then there has been a rise in the number of charities and good cause organisations, and also a rise in applications, which is very welcome.

"But we can do more.

"Heritage is something we are not short of in Inverclyde, so I am sure we can bring more Lotto grants to the area."

Greenock Telegraph:

The Inverclyde representatives are to host an event for community groups, charities and organisations at the Beacon on September 15 from 1:30pm.

Mr McMillan said: “Local groups often know what’s best for the community, so getting more funding into their hands to enable them to deliver projects is vital for regeneration and also for securing community buy-in.”
