MUCH of the Clune Park estate has been lost to the vandals who have repeatedly set fire to many of the empty flats in the area. It was really only a matter of time before the derelict school there would fall to the same fate, and when it did, it made a tragic spectacle. I had the pleasure of photographing the goings on the school when it was a thriving hub of fun and learning. Here are some shots featuring those who attended Clune Park Primary School in its hay day.
Councillors and pupils of Clune Park Primary gave a cheer for the Tele camera in celebration of their much-loved school being saved from closure in 1997.
James Watt College faculty of hospitality studies lecturer Jean Marshall worked with teachers to bring a healthy eating awareness day to Clune Park Primary School. The youngsters were photographed as they learned to make up tasty fruit platters back in 1996.
Clune Park Primary School pupils enjoyed a pumpkin decorating class run by Port Glasgow store Safeway back in 1999. After their crafting efforts, the kids attending the in-store workshop class were rewarded with boxes of chocolates.
This bunch of budding bakers visited Greenock's Tesco in 1997 to discover the secrets of cooking up cakes, bread and baquettes. Expert baker David Graham gave the kids a tour of the bakery before posing up with them for this fun shot.
This pic shows pupils celebrating their attainment of a 1998 World Wildlife commendation for their hard work in learning about and encouraging nature conservation in their neighbourhood.
