DETECTIVES are today probing a serious street attack after a man was seen walking through the centre of Greenock covered in blood.
CCTV footage of the topless bearded individual, wearing only a pair of blood soaked white shorts and trainers, has been shared widely on social media.
Police were called to the incident at West Blackhall Street yesterday evening and it is understood that the injured man was later conveyed to hospital.
An area near where the street meets Dalrymple Street and Grey Place was cordoned off for a period of time while initial investigations were carried out.
A trail of blood spatters could still be seen on the pavement this morning.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6:55pm, we were called to a report of a 26-year-old man injured on West Blackhall Street, Greenock.
“He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and enquiries are ongoing into this serious assault.”
