THERE have been many areas of grass flooded badly over the past week and most are now suffering badly.
My old friend Harry who attends the early morning gardening talks is always asking about this topic and I told him I would write a bit about the great green grass.
Let me explain a little bit more.
Harry cuts the grass at his local kirk and is always on the lookout for tips about his beloved grass.
This year has brought spells of drought but more recently there has been rain - lots of it.
Because of this many of the nutrients have been washed out of the soil below the grass.
For good grass and for grass to survive the winter, one has to think seriously about applying a feed to the grass.
Make sure that you apply only an autumn feed because it contains low levels of nitrogen and much higher amounts of phosphorus and potassium.
Do not be tempted to use a summer feed on you grass otherwise you grass will not survive and it will die.
One other important thing to bear in mind is that rainfall was predicted on Sunday afternoon – several millimetres Harry told me - and he was correct.
So it really pays gardeners to pay heed to weather forecasts.
