A GREENOCK cheerleading coach has spoken of her pride after her students were chosen to fly the flag for Scotland at a major global competition.

Three athletes from ICE Allstars have booked their place on the plane to Florida for next year’s International Cheer Union World Cheerleading Championships.

Josh Craik, 21, Naimh Tolan, 13, and Madison Clamp, 16, are the first of the club’s members to successfully audition for the Scottish squad.

ICE Allstars was launched in 2020 by coach Chloe Farmer, with around 30 young cheerleaders currently taking part in classes at George Square Studios.

Chloe, 25, said she was delighted to see her students given the chance to represent their country while the club is still in its infancy.

Greenock Telegraph:

Chloe told the Tele: “It is quite a big thing.

“It’s the first time we’ve had any of them go for Team Scotland and everybody who went to audition got in.

“I feel it’s amazing because we only began in 2020.

“It’s such a journey they’ve been on and you see how quickly they’re progressing through the skills.

“Being chosen to represent Scotland is such a big deal – it just makes you so proud of them and what they’re achieving.”

The championsips will be held in Orlando from April 24-26 next year.

Josh and Madison have been selected for the senior squad, with Niamh taking part in the youth competiton.

Chloe will also be travelling to Florida as part of Team Scotland.

She said: “I’ve been selected to coach one of the teams as well – adaptive abilities, a combination of people with adaptive needs and those without.

“They basically come together to try and give everyone an opportunity to compete at the worlds.”

The ICE Allstars team will be running fundraisers in the coming months to help them cover some of the costs of the trip.

This will include Josh taking on a sponsored walk covering the distance between Glasgow and his hometown of Llahnbryde near Elgin – which comes in at just under 200 miles - during next month.
