OVER a million bus journeys have been taken by young people in Inverclyde since free travel was introduced for under-22s.
A total of 11,520 young people in the area have free travel cards and have clocked up 1,305,846 trips.
A rate of 91 per cent of all eligible young people in Inverclyde have received their free bus pass, which allows them to travel anywhere in Scotland.
Only Edinburgh has a higher sign-up level.
The policy was first proposed by the Scottish Greens and was delivered after the party joined the Scottish Government in 2021.
Green MSP Ross Greer said: “I am delighted that so many young people in Inverclyde now have their free bus pass.
"There will be families in Inverclyde who have already saved hundreds of pounds.
“It’s fantastic that nine in 10 young people in Inverclyde are taking full advantage of the scheme. Those who haven’t signed up yet should head to freebus.scot to get their card
"This scheme is opening up our community and our country while helping families through the cost of living crisis and protecting the climate by reducing the numbers of cars on the road.
"I’m really proud that we have delivered it with the Scottish Greens in government."
