AUDI'S TT sports car comes to the end of the road this year after 25 years of production.
The company recently celebrated the 25th anniversary by taking three examples to the Isle of Man whose annual TT motorcycle racing event was the inspiration for the model’s name.
A TT coupe design study was unveiled at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The response from visitors prompted Audi to develop the model that went into production in 1998, with few visual differences from the concept car.
A roadster version followed a year later.
Audi UK chief Andrew Doyle said: “The TT was such a pivotal model for Audi back in the nineties, and we’re still basking in its afterglow almost three decades after the original concept car became an overnight sensation.
“It was one of the key catalysts behind the incredible transformation our brand has undergone over the past quarter of a century, and in this special anniversary year its history and legacy richly deserve celebration.”
The three examples which visited the Isle of Man were a first generation TT from the Audi UK heritage fleet, a TTS Roadster Final Edition and a TT RS Iconic Edition.
Three generations of the TT have been produced, with more than 157,000 going to UK customers.
