INVERCLYDE could have a firework control zone designated in time for Guy Fawkes Night next year.
Members of the council's environment and regeneration committee are being asked to approve an 'expression of interest to the Scottish Government to develop a zone proposal in Inverclyde'.
Larkfield has previously identified by Municipal Buildings chiefs as an 'obvious candidate' for enforcement of the new Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles Scotland Act 2022.
A report to go before the committee tomorrow states: "The commencement of the provisions received widespread publicity and is likely to lead to expectations that the council will act quickly to introduce firework control zones in areas of Inverclyde where there have been historical issues."
Larkfield was the scene of a Guy Fawkes Night riot in 2020 and has an illegal fireworks display annually.
Any final decision on implementing a fireworks control zone will be taken at a future meeting of the full council
