MSP Jamie Greene has expressed his concern over figures which reveal stark inequalities in dental health amongst primary one children in Inverclyde.
Within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS board, which includes the district, 43 per cent of the most deprived children had obvious signs of tooth decay in 2022.
In comparison, less than 14 per cent of the most well off P1 children had obvious signs of tooth decay in the health board region.
The figures come amid a crisis within Scottish dentistry, when securing an appointment is becoming increasingly difficult.
Mr Greene said: “Primary school children must be supported to keep healthy by their schools, especially in areas where parents may lack the resources to do so."
