AN uninsured motorist who was caught behind the wheel of a car without a full licence told police 'I'm a good driver' after being arrested.

Jordan Moore has been banned from the roads after pleading guilty to two offences under Road Traffic Act legislation.

The 32-year-old confessed to PCs who pulled him over in Greenock earlier this year that he drives without a licence 'all the time' and 'never thought I would be caught'.

At a sentencing hearing last week, procurator fiscal depute Fergus Warner told Greenock Sheriff Court that police in an unmarked car stopped a Nissan Juke being driven by Moore on February 15.

Checks confirmed he held a provisional licence and had no valid insurance policy.

He was arrested and told officers: "I do it all the time, I just never thought I would be caught. I am a good driver."

Moore admitted to driving the vehicle on Inverkip Street, Ann Street and elsewhere while unaccompanied by a qualified driver and without displaying 'L' plates on the car.

Crown prosecutors accepted a not guilty plea to a further charge of taking and driving away the car from an address in Inverkip Street without having either the consent of the owner of lawful authority.

Defence solicitor David Tod told last week's court hearing: "I am at some loss as to why it was deferred for a report but we are where we are."

Sheriff James Spy sentenced Moore, of Inverkip Street, to a community payback order with 80 hours of unpaid work to be completed within six months.

Moore, who has previous convictions, was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years.
