SHOPPERS in Inverclyde have helped a major supermarket donate thousands of meals to families experiencing food insecurity in recent months.
Lidl, which has stores in Port Glasgow and Greenock, donated more than 400,000 meals to Scottish families between April and September.
The company is working with local charities to pass on surplus food and items donated by customers through its ‘Good to Give’ initiative - a campaign which seeks to increase the nutritional variety of food parcels given to those in need.
Mark Newbold, senior CSR manager at Lidl GB, said: “Our stores are part of local communities they serve, so it’s incredibly important to us that we do our bit to help those facing food insecurity – both by making donations directly and by encouraging our shoppers to donate where they can.”
Lidl shoppers who wish to donate are urged to look out for signage near items being sought by charities.
