A PORT councillor says he is pleased a new £31m masterplan for the town's eyesore Clune Park estate has been rubberstamped.
Councillors unanimously backed the plan at a meeting of the Environment and Regeneration Committee.
The new proposal features a blueprint for the construction of 135 new homes, consisting of a mixture of cottage flats and houses, although the council still needs to reach a deal to snap up 150 flats which are still privately-owned before it can send in the bulldozers.
The SNP's Chris Curley said: "I am glad that the masterplan includes the retention of the front of the Clune Park School and a mixture of housing types and sizes, including much needed three and four bedroom properties.
“The plan also includes proposal to improve connections to the the town centre and along the old A8 road to Woodhall, which will improve the sustainability of any development.”
“I hope that the approval of this plan will add impetus to the purchase of the remaining properties in the area."
