A GREENOCK man accused of assaulting two police officers in the town more than three years ago is still waiting to stand trial - after his lawyer claimed the case against him is incompetent.

Nathan Middleton is charged with four alleged offences relating to a reported incident in South Street on August 15, 2020.

Middleton, 26, is said to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting aggressively.

Prosecutors claim he assaulted a male constable by striking him on the face with his hand, while he allegedly attacked another PC by attempting to bite him on the leg and trying to spit on him.

It is further claimed that Middleton resisted, obstructed or hindered the first officer by pulling his arms away and kicking out with his legs.

Gerry Keenan, defending, told Greenock Sheriff Court that Middleton maintains his not guilty pleas and has been 'prejudiced and can't proceed to a fair trial'.

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan continued the first diet calling of the case to a debate hearing on November 28 and Middleton's bail has been continued.
