ACTIVISTS who who want to see Clydeport nationalised have been backed by a leading union.
The Campaign to Save Inchgreen is currently petitioning the Scottish Parliament as it wants to see ports and other waterfront facilities like the dry dock brought under public control.
Secretary Robert Buirds says the RMT's Gordon Martin, Scottish organiser, has confirmed his union's support for the push, declaring that the RMT 'fully support the public ownership of our rivers and dry docking facilities which should be used to best advantage the workers and population of Scotland'.
The campaign has also received a donation of £500 from the Unite Greater Glasgow Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Branch.
Mr Buirds said: "We thank Greig McArthur, branch secretary, Davie Brockett, branch treasurer and Joe Pisani, branch chairman for their continued support."
The campaign is also set to meet with STUC General Secretary Roz Foyer and Derek Thompson, Unite Regional Secretary.
Mr Buirds said: "We will continue promoting our petition and give it the best chance of success."
