GREENOCK actor Martin Compston is urging people to get behind a vital local cause this Christmas following the launch of a major fundraising drive.

Ardgowan Hospice’s Big Give campaign is under way and running until December 5.

During this period, all donations received up to £8,000 will be matched thanks to support from The Reed Foundation and McDonald’s in the Community.

Despite the campaign still being in its early stages, donors have already given more than £4,000.

The funds raised will be used to create a ‘cosy and comforting’ environment for patients and their families at the hospice.

This will include the purchase of pressure-relieving rise recliner chairs that are easy to move, cleanable and offer comfort to patients.

Greenock Telegraph:

Within its family bedroom, the hospice hopes to install a built-in Murphy bed with storage and seating.

If the fundraising target is met, the charity will also be able to refurbish its relaxation room – a space where patients and their visitors can watch movies on a big screen, have private dinners, enjoy board games and more.

Hospice ambassador Martin visited the rooms which are to be refurbished ahead of the campaign’s launch.

The Line of Duty actor said: "Ardgowan Hospice's Christmas Big Give campaign is an incredible opportunity to come together as a community and make a lasting difference.

Greenock Telegraph:

“By backing this campaign, we can guarantee that individuals facing serious illnesses, along with their families, will have access to a relaxing and intimate space that resembles home.

“Please join me in supporting this worthy cause.”

Ardgowan Hospice chief executive Graham Gardiner added: "We understand that Christmas can be a challenging time in terms of having the funds to support charitable causes.

“However, this unique campaign gives us the chance to double any donation, so that even the smallest contributions to our week-long Christmas campaign become twice as amazing!

“Your donations will help us provide much-needed equipment and relaxing, refurbished spaces for patients and their families.

“Together, let's make a difference and spread the spirit of giving in any way that we can."

Donations to the Big Give campaign must be made by December 5 to qualify for the match funding.
