A RACIST who claimed a doctor at an addiction recovery service in Greenock 'shouldn't be in this country' has been spared a prison sentence.

The 50-year-old man, who has 20 previous convictions, has been placed on an electronic tagging order despite a sheriff stating that his latest offence passed the custody threshold.

A THIEF who stole more than £140 worth of booze from three Inverclyde stores has been placed under social work supervision after his lawyer told a court he is 'crying out for support'.

The man was convicted of four theft offences after stealing fuel, to the value of £8.54, from the BP filling station in Branchton, as well as alcohol from Co-op shops in Wemyss Bay, Gourock and Kilmacolm.

A WOMAN who neglected and abandoned two children in a fly-infested Port Glasgow flat filled with four feet high piles of rotten waste has been spared jail — after a court heard the 'disgraceful' conditions were not fit for an animal.

She left the youngsters, who were aged under 15, with just £10, some bread and the clothes on their backs when she claimed she was going to visit a friend in England.

A BRUTAL domestic abuse thug who attacked and manipulated a succession of women during a period spanning 15 years has been locked up.

The serial offender's catalogue of torment and harassment included threatening to glue one victim's private parts closed 'so no-one else could go near her'.

A CARELESS provisional licence holder who crashed his partner's car while speeding on a country road was left with a broken jaw after rolling the vehicle and causing a van driver to smash into a tree.

Sean Reid took a Peugeot 208 without its owner's consent before losing control of the car on Auchenfoil Road, near Kilmacolm, and hitting a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van on the opposite carriageway.

A  STREET drinker who repeatedly tried to smash a can of beer off his pal's head whilst 'heavily intoxicated' is not fit for an unpaid work punishment order, Greenock Sheriff Court has been told.

Brian Stewart, 36, attacked his drinking partner during an 'unacceptable' spat as the pair boozed together on the town's Mount Pleasant Street.

A GREENOCK woman who was seen on CCTV 'smiling and laughing' while a machete-wielding accomplice raided a Port Glasgow convenience store has been jailed for her part in the shocking daylight robbery.

She helped Michael Glancy carry out the brazen afternoon attack at the Usave shop on Cromdale Road earlier this year and both are now behind bars.

A GREENOCK man charged with multiple assaults on two ex-partners dating back more than 15 years is set to stand trial at the sheriff court later this month.

The man faces 10 indictment charges relating to alleged attacks on the women at his Clydeview Road home and elsewhere in the town.
