A SERIOUS assault-accused charged with scarring two people in alleged bottle attacks in Greenock has had his case continued at the sheriff court.

Shaun Charles is alleged to have severely injured a man and a woman on July 9, 2022 at a property in Miller Street.

The 26-year-old is said to have repeatedly struck the man on the head with a bottle, while he allegedly punched the woman and repeatedly struck her on the head and body with a broken bottle.

According to the Crown, both assaults are said to have resulted in the permanent disfigurement of the alleged victims.

Charles, from Kilwinning, also faces four further charges including breaching a 7pm-7am curfew order and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by acting aggressively, shouting, swearing and throwing household items.

Court papers state he committed alleged vandalism offences by smashing a glass door within the locus and throwing a chair at a window causing it to smash.

On the same date, at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Charles allegedly acted in a racially aggravated manner by uttering racist remarks to two police officers.

Defence solicitor Ellen Macdonald maintained his not guilty pleas to the charges at Greenock Sheriff Court last week.

The lawyer and procurator fiscal depute Raeesa Ahmed agreed that a further first diet hearing was needed as medical records are still outstanding and 'further investigation in relation to DNA is required'.

The case will call again on February 20 next year and Charles' bail was continued until then.
