A TEENAGER has been banned from a Greenock nightclub after admitting to carrying a knife in a street outside the venue.

Nineteen-year-old Billy Drummond appeared from custody at Greenock Sheriff Court to plead guilty to the blade possession charge.

He was found with the weapon shortly before midnight on March 4 in Dalrymple Street without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

The court heard that Drummond, who has previous convictions and had been remanded at Polmont Young Offenders Institution, was subject to a total of four separate court bail orders at the time of the offence.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a further charge alleging that the teen had behaved in a threatening or abusive manner on the same date.

It was claimed that Drummond attempted to gain entry to Text nightclub, and when turned away by two door stewards at the premises he shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence towards them and produced a knife from his waistband.

Defence solicitor Amy Spencer said her client had been in custody since March 6 and has already served the equivalent of an 18-month sentence behind bars, marking 'the longest time he has served in prison'.

Sheriff Robert Carr deferred sentence until January 10 for background reports to be prepared and Drummond was allowed bail meantime.

Conditions of that order include not approaching or contacting two men or entering Text nightclub, as well as a 7pm-7am curfew.
