A TEACHER is today facing serious allegations that he engaged in a sexual 'relationship' with a 15-year-old pupil at a school in Inverclyde.
The man - who has not been named - is accused of being involved with a girl at Port Glasgow High.
A series of historical allegations dating back nearly 30 years are set to be the subject of a hearing at the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) headquarters in Edinburgh.
It is understood that the case centres on a period of time between August 1994 and June 1995, during which the teacher was employed by Inverclyde Council and the alleged victim was aged 15 and 16.
It includes allegations of him being involved in sexual activity in his car, kissing and inappropriately touching the girl in his classroom at the school.
A GTCS panel is due to meet to consider the accused man's fitness to teach as he faces being struck off the teaching register.
Among the allegations against him, some of which are too graphic to publish, it is claimed that he did 'repeatedly kiss her [the girl] on the mouth, touch her breasts and grab hold of her bottom in his classroom'.
It is further alleged that the teacher repeatedly engaged in conversations of a sexual nature.
Other claims include a charge that he 'did kiss her in the school gymnasium and repeatedly spend time alone with her in his classroom'.
The allegations go on, claiming that he did 'repeatedly meet her outside of school, and call her at home when he knew her parents were not present'.
The most serious incident is alleged to have taken place in February 1995 - when the girl was 15. It is claimed that the teacher took her in his car to Cornalees and engaged in sexual activity with her in his car.
The case is set to go before the GTCS next Monday and is scheduled to run for a number of days.
