POLICE are treating a fire which occurred in Larkfield last night as a 'wilful act'.
Officers and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel attended a report of a bin fire in the Burns Square area of Greenock shortly after around 7.30pm.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and made the site safe, with police now looking into the incident.
Last year the Tele told how local councillor James Daisley had highlighted the area as a hotspot for fire setting incidents after a series of emergency callouts.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a bin fire in the Burns Square area of Greenock at around 7.35pm on Wednesday, 24 January, 2024.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguish the fire.
“Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident as a wilful act.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 7.28pm on Wednesday, 24 January to reports of a small fire within a bin at Burns Square, Greenock.
“Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the incident where firefighters extinguished the fire.
“The crew left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
