MSP Paul O’Kane says he has asked BT bosses to do a u-turn on their plan to close the EE call centre in Greenock.
The company recently announced plans to move all 450 jobs to Glasgow.
Labour's Mr O’Kane met with BT’s Head of Nations and Regions, Nick Speed, and urged him to keep the centre and jobs in the local area. He's also asked for direct communication with BT's chief executive Allison Kirkby.
Mr O’Kane said: “These 450 jobs at the centre are very important to the local community and it's important they stay in Inverclyde and that we make sure that the local economy is strong.
"I am pushing BT to think again.
“I'm expecting to hear back from the chief executive of BT as a matter of urgency."
