A GREENOCK man tried to gouge a woman's eye and repeatedly choked her during a 16-month campaign of abuse.

Ross Olding also repeatedly struck his victim's head off a table and posted abusive videos about her online.

Olding, 46, is today facing the prospect of a prison sentence after pleaded guilty to the indictment offence at Greenock Sheriff Court.

He had also been charged with further attacks against the woman and of assaulting and verbally abusing a child.

His not guilty pleas to these allegations were accepted by prosecutors following discussions with a defence lawyer.

Olding repeatedly targeted the woman between August 2019 and January 2021 at a property in Port Glasgow and elsewhere.

He attempted to gouge her eye with his finger and repeatedly struck her head off a table to her injury, while on separate occasions he placed his hands around her neck and choked her.

Olding, of Wellington Street in Greenock, repeatedly shouted, swore and uttered derogatory remarks towards his victim, pushed her on the body causing her to fall to her injury, and seized glasses from her face and broke them.

He also repeatedly contacted the complainer via an instant messaging service and phoned and left abusive voicemails.

Following the negotiated plea deal with prosecutors, Olding was formally found not guilty of four other indictment charges.

It was claimed that he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and refusing to allow his then-partner into a home on South Street on an occasion in August 2013.

He had also been charged with assaulting the same woman between January and December 2019 by seizing her by the wrists, compressing them, pushing her, forcing her against a doorframe, pushing her backwards causing her to fall and strike a bed before falling onto the floor and then slapping her on the face to her injury.

Olding was also accused of assaulting a child in May 2020 by pushing him on the body, trying to punch him on the head and grabbing him by his clothing.

It was also alleged that between May and October 2020, Olding shouted, swore and acted aggressively towards the same youngster and posted offensive comments on Facebook relating to them.

Sentence on the first offender has been deferred for reports until March 20. His bail has been continued until then.
