OVERNIGHT roadworks will be carried out on the A8 from next week to resolve the water supply issues which have delayed the opening of Greenock’s new Starbucks by more than three months.
The coffee shop drive through was originally due to open in November last year, but the launch has been pushed back several times since.
Bosses now hope to open the premises by the end of this month.
Last month, the Tele revealed that the hold-ups at Starbucks were due to problems connecting the water supply – which could not be fixed until Scottish Water’s £2.5 million flood alleviation project nearby on the A8 had concluded.
This programme – which started in June last year – recently ended, with the road fully reopening on February 20.
Contractors Water and Pipeline Services have now written to residents in the area to advise that the Starbucks works will be carried out near Cartsburn roundabout between March 7 and 27.
During this time, traffic management will be in place between 8pm and 6am.
Starbucks has confirmed that it hopes to welcome its first customers in Greenock in the week beginning March 25.
Amey, who oversee Scotland’s trunk road network, have meanwhile confirmed that further A8 works are in the pipeline – including a resurfacing project which is due to begin this month.
A spokesperson said: “The completion of the flood alleviation work by Scottish Water will allow for previously planned carriageway resurfacing works on the eastbound East Hamilton Street to commence.
“At present these are being planned for March, and full details will be communicated via our website and roadwork alerts service shortly.
“Planned maintenance is also being prepared to improve the carriageway on the westbound A8 Bogston to Ratho Street, which we hope will commence in the spring.
“Other than these pieces of planned carriageway maintenance, we continue to respond to category one road defects, as identified by our patrols and inspection teams.
“There is also an ongoing project to upgrade the traffic light system throughout Port Glasgow and Greenock, which will recommence early in the new financial year.
“These works will also be communicated through our regular channels.”
