BUDDING young gardeners at a Greenock primary school have scooped a horticultural honour.
Whinhill Primary School has been crowned one of the winners in Keep Scotland Beautiful's pocket garden design competition.
Pupils created a design for a miniature garden called 'Nature's engineers near us' which is inspired by the wildlife near to the school.
The pocket garden will resemble an osprey's nest but contains vegetables, herbs, sunflowers and strawberries instead of chicks, and has a pond made from a repurposed bowl and stones.
Earlier this year, Keep Scotland Beautiful, which is an environmental charity, invited pupils aged three to 18 all over Scotland to design a miniature garden.
All gardens had to include food for people, be good for wildlife, and reuse materials.
Whinhill was one of 30 winners from more than 100 entries submitted.
