CLYDEPORT workers - including employees based at Greenock Ocean Terminal - have secured a pay rise following successful trade union negotiations.
Around 20 engineers working at the Inverclyde site and at parent company Peel Ports' King George V dock in Glasgow overwhelmingly backed the offer of a seven per cent increase to wages, significantly above the current rate of inflation.
Sharon Graham, general secretary of the Unite union, described the outcome as a 'good win'.
She said: “Unite is securing better pay, jobs and conditions for our members. It’s what we do.
"The pay rise for Clydeport engineers in Glasgow and Greenock is another good win and demonstrates why Unite is Scotland’s leading trade union.”
The engineers provide crucial repair and maintenance support services for the Clydeport cranes and workshops, owned by Peel Ports, to ensure that containers, forest products, agribulk, project and bulk cargo can efficiently move on to and from land to destination markets.
Pat McIlvogue, Unite industrial officer, added: “Clydeport engineers have overwhelmingly backed a significant pay increase negotiated by Unite.
"A seven per cent pay win represents a big boost to our members’ pay packets.
"We are pleased to have got this deal over the line for our members.”
